This bill redesignates the existing Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park in Georgia as Ocmulgee Mounds National Park and establishes a new adjacent Ocmulgee Mounds National Preserve. The legislation allows the Secretary of the Interior to acquire additional land within the designated areas from willing sellers through purchase, donation, or exchange, but prohibits use of eminent domain. The bill affects residents of Georgia, the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, and visitors to the area, while also establishing a nine-member advisory council to guide management of the combined park and preserve, with an emphasis on co-management with the Tribe and tribal hiring preferences. The bill allows hunting and fishing to continue in accordance with federal and state law, permits tribal members to conduct traditional ceremonies, and transfers approximately 126 acres of tribal-owned land within the preserve into federal trust status for the Tribe's benefit. The advisory council must submit management recommendations within three years of the bill's enactment, and the Secretary has one year after receiving those recommendations to finalize a co-management agreement with the Muscogee (Creek) Nation.
