To amend chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, to require Federal agencies to submit to the Comptroller General of the United States a report on rules that are revoked, suspended, replaced, amended, or otherwise made ineffective.
This bill requires federal agencies to notify the Government Accountability Office (GAO) whenever they revoke, suspend, replace, amend, or otherwise eliminate rules that were previously submitted for review. Agencies must provide the GAO with detailed information about the affected rule, including its title, Federal Register citation, submission date, and a description of what provisions are being changed or eliminated. The requirement applies to all federal agencies and helps the GAO maintain an up-to-date database of which rules are no longer in effect. The bill does not include any specific funding and will automatically expire six years after it becomes law. This legislation aims to improve government transparency and record-keeping regarding regulatory changes.
