The Unity through Service Act of 2024 establishes an Interagency Council on Service composed of representatives from major federal departments and agencies to coordinate and promote opportunities in military service, national service such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps, and public service careers. The Council will develop recruitment strategies, share best practices across agencies, and produce a comprehensive Service Strategy every four years starting two years after enactment to identify gaps and recommend improvements in how the government reaches potential service participants. The bill also permits the Department of Defense, Corporation for National and Community Service, and Peace Corps to jointly conduct market research and advertising to complement their existing recruitment efforts, and requires these agencies to provide service participants with information about transitional opportunities into other service sectors. The legislation includes no additional funding authorization, relying instead on existing agency budgets, and requires the Government Accountability Office to report on the bill's effectiveness within 30 months of enactment.
