This bill would require the President and Vice President to file significantly expanded ethics disclosure reports beyond what is currently required. Within 30 days of taking office, they would need to file a report covering the prior two years, and then annually by May 15 each year in office. After leaving office, they would continue filing annual reports for two additional years. The required disclosures would include gifts over $10,000 from relatives, all loans to or from relatives, any payments or transfers from foreign sources, copies of federal income tax returns, potential conflicts of interest involving the President, Vice President, or their relatives, and details about relatives who accompany them on official travel. All reports would be submitted to relevant congressional committees and the Office of Government Ethics, which would make them publicly available online within 30 days in a searchable format. The bill provides limited exceptions for estranged relatives or relatives who are federal employees with their own disclosure requirements.
