The SCREEN for Type 1 Diabetes Act of 2024 directs the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to launch a national public awareness campaign aimed at improving detection, screening, and management of type 1 diabetes among both healthcare providers and the general public. The campaign will include public service announcements through various media channels, written materials about early symptoms and screening availability, and culturally tailored resources for communities most affected by the disease. The legislation requires the CDC to work with healthcare providers, schools, public health departments, and community organizations to distribute screening information and increase access to testing. The bill authorizes five million dollars annually for fiscal years 2025 through 2029 to fund the campaign and grants to state, local, and tribal health departments. The Secretary of Health and Human Services must report to Congress within one year on the campaign's progress and impact on type 1 diabetes awareness and screening rates.
