This bill authorizes grants of up to 50 million dollars annually from 2025 through 2029 to help schools and educational agencies improve mental health and trauma support services for students. The funding goes to eligible entities including school districts, tribal education agencies, and state education departments that develop programs connecting schools with community mental health resources and trauma-informed support systems. Schools receiving grants must use the funds for evidence-based activities such as training teachers in trauma-informed practices, establishing partnerships between schools and mental health agencies, engaging families and communities, and providing direct support services to students. The bill requires grant recipients to establish agreements with local agencies including mental health providers, child welfare agencies, and juvenile justice authorities to coordinate services and define financial responsibility. Grants last up to five years, and the Secretary of Education must conduct evaluations and ensure funding is distributed fairly across different regions and among tribal, urban, suburban, and rural areas.
