This bill allows military personnel transitioning from the Defense Department to Veterans Affairs to continue seeing their current military mental health provider during the changeover. Service members with mental health conditions would receive the same priority for appointments at military medical facilities as active-duty troops and could stay with their existing provider even after becoming eligible for VA care. The VA would reimburse the Defense Department for any care provided under this arrangement. If a service member's provider leaves the military facility or the individual relocates and can no longer access that facility, they would transition to a VA mental health provider, with their medical records automatically transferred to the VA system to ensure continuity of care.
