The Judicial FOIA Expansion Act would extend the Freedom of Information Act and Privacy Act to the federal court system, which is currently exempt from these public disclosure laws. Under this bill, federal courts would be required to make public certain records including attorney disciplinary proceedings, complaints against judges, Federal Judicial Conference calendars and meeting minutes, jury selection forms, and judge performance reports. The bill protects ongoing cases and other sensitive deliberations from disclosure while requiring that any released information be provided in machine-readable format. The legislation authorizes $10 million in funding for fiscal year 2025 to establish an office within the Administrative Office of the United States Courts to handle these new disclosure requirements.
