The BRAIN Act (Bolstering Research And Innovation Now Act) aims to accelerate medical breakthroughs in brain tumor treatment and improve access to specialized care. The legislation addresses the fact that over one million Americans currently live with a brain tumor, with survival rates essentially stagnant for 45 years—only 6.9 percent for glioblastoma, the most common malignant brain tumor. The bill establishes several initiatives, including a searchable database of brain tumor tissue samples to support research, creates two new research programs (the Glioblastoma Therapeutics Network and a CAR-T cell therapy research initiative), and funds a national public awareness campaign to educate patients and doctors about clinical trials and biomarker testing. It also supports pilot programs to develop better long-term care models for brain tumor survivors and directs the FDA to issue guidance expanding brain tumor patients' access to clinical trials. The legislation authorizes approximately $75 million in funding from 2026 through 2030 for these initiatives.
