The Elder Pride Protection Act of 2024 establishes a federal task force within the Department of Justice to address the rising problem of elder abuse targeting LGBTQI+ individuals. The Attorney General must create the Elder LGBTQI+ Defense and Enhance Resources Task Force within 90 days, staffed by members from the Department's Elder Justice Initiative and Civil Rights Division. The task force will study the prevalence of such abuse, develop best practices for law enforcement at all levels, create educational materials about prevention and response, and coordinate efforts among local, state, and federal agencies to combat these crimes. The legislation defines elder abuse broadly to include physical, sexual, emotional, financial abuse and neglect of people age 60 and older. The task force must report its progress to Congress within one year of the law's enactment.
