This bill requires the Department of Veterans Affairs to create a publicly available list of healthcare providers who have completed annual training on suicide prevention for veterans. Within 180 days of the bill's enactment, the VA must offer this training to all covered providers, which includes VA health professionals and community care network providers under contract with the VA. Providers who complete the training or equivalent training meeting VA standards will be added to a "preferred provider list" that veterans can access to find qualified mental health professionals. The bill includes an opt-out option for providers who don't wish to be listed, and requires annual reviews to ensure all listed providers maintain current training certification. Beginning 180 days after enactment and annually thereafter, the Secretary of Veterans Affairs must report to Congress on how many providers completed training, how many veterans are using these preferred providers, and whether the program is achieving its goal of improving veteran access to suicide prevention care.
