The Chinese Communist Party Politburo Accountability Act authorizes the President to impose sanctions against senior Chinese Communist Party officials, including Politburo members, who engage in malicious disinformation campaigns against the United States, steal American intellectual property, threaten Taiwan's sovereignty, or suppress religious freedom in China. The sanctions include freezing any assets these officials hold in the United States and barring them from entering the country, with their visas immediately revoked. The bill requires the Secretary of State to evaluate within 180 days whether current Politburo members meet criteria for sanctions under this law and other existing human rights measures, and mandates that the President impose sanctions on five specifically named officials within the same timeframe. The legislation expires on January 1, 2026, though any sanctions already imposed before that date remain in effect, and the President has limited authority to waive sanctions on a case-by-case basis for national security reasons.
