The Securing Infrastructure from Adversaries Act prohibits the Department of Transportation from purchasing or contracting with companies that use light detection and ranging technology, commonly known as LiDAR, from foreign adversaries including China, Iran, North Korea, and Russia. The restrictions apply to any contracts the Transportation Department enters into directly, as well as to entities receiving federal loans or grants for transportation projects. The bill defines covered LiDAR companies as those on the government's screening lists for sanctions or listed as Chinese military companies. The prohibition takes effect on June 30, 2026, giving companies time to transition away from foreign-sourced technology. The Secretary of Transportation can waive these restrictions on a case-by-case basis if necessary for national interest, but must notify Congress at least 15 days before doing so.
