Referred to the Committee on Ways and Means, and in addition to the Committee on Veterans' Affairs, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned.
The Affordable Housing for Veterans Act would eliminate fees that veterans must pay on home loans guaranteed by the Department of Veterans Affairs, making it cheaper for military veterans to purchase homes. The bill would immediately end these loan fees, which currently were scheduled to continue through November 2031. To offset the cost of eliminating these fees, the legislation would rescind 4.8 billion dollars in unspent funding that was previously allocated to the Internal Revenue Service under the Inflation Reduction Act. The bill would primarily benefit veterans seeking to buy homes by reducing their borrowing costs, while directing federal savings from IRS funding back toward offsetting this housing benefit.
