The STOP Suicide Act establishes a federal grant program to support organizations providing stabilization services to people experiencing serious suicidal thoughts. Eligible organizations include community health centers, schools, colleges, crisis centers, public health agencies, tribal organizations, and hospitals that serve as primary care or behavioral health providers. Grants of up to five years would support evidence-based services delivered in the least restrictive settings appropriate for each person, including outpatient care, virtual services, and peer support programs. The bill authorizes thirty million dollars per year from 2025 through 2029 for these grants and requires the federal government to evaluate the programs' effectiveness and provide training and technical assistance to grant recipients. Applicants must also demonstrate how they will continue funding these services after their grant period ends.
