The Workforce of the Future Act of 2024 prepares Americans for jobs in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies by establishing federal grant programs and conducting research on AI's labor market impact. The bill requires the Secretaries of Labor and Education, along with the Director of the National Science Foundation, to produce reports within one year and two years of enactment analyzing which workers and communities face job displacement from AI, what skills workers need to adapt, and how to ensure training reaches underserved populations including low-income and rural communities. The Department of Education would receive $160 million over fiscal years 2025-2029 to award grants to schools and school districts for training teachers and expanding access to computer science and technology education from elementary through high school, with particular focus on reaching minority, low-income, and female students. The Department of Labor would receive $90 million over the same period for grants to help workers in industries most affected by AI gain new skills through scholarships, certifications, and retraining programs. Grantees must track and report how many people they serve, with data broken down by race, ethnicity, gender, and income level.
