# Summary of H.R. 9674: Judiciary Accountability Act of 2024 This bill extends federal workplace anti-discrimination and anti-retaliation protections to employees of the judicial branch, which currently operate under different rules than executive branch agencies. The law applies Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Rehabilitation Act, the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act, and veterans' employment protections to federal judges, court employees, and staff. It establishes a new independent Office of Judicial Integrity within the federal judiciary to oversee investigations and handle disputes, led by a five-member Board of Directors and a Judicial Integrity Officer. The bill creates dispute resolution procedures including preliminary reviews, mediation, hearings before independent hearing officers, and appeals to the Board, with judicial review available in federal appeals courts. It also establishes an Office of Employee Advocacy to provide free legal assistance to employees throughout these processes. The Office of Judicial Integrity and related procedures become operational within one year of enactment, with most substantive protections taking effect one year after passage. The bill authorizes appropriations as necessary to fund these new offices and mechanisms, and applies similar protections to the Supreme Court, Tax Court, Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, and the District Courts of Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, and the Virgin Islands.
