The School Resource Officer Funding Protection Act of 2024 requires states to maintain their funding levels for school resource officer programs in elementary and secondary schools in order to receive the full amount of federal education funding they are eligible for under existing education programs. Beginning in the fiscal year after the bill is enacted, states must spend at least as much on school resource officers as they did in the most recent year they were in compliance with this requirement, or they can request a waiver if facing extraordinary financial circumstances. States must submit annual reports to the federal government documenting how much they spent on school resource officer programs over the past six years and how many officers they employed. If a state fails to maintain its funding levels without receiving a waiver, the federal government will reduce that state's education funding in the following year by an amount proportional to the shortfall in school resource officer spending.
