Providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the Department of Justice relating to Office of the Attorney General; Home Confinement Under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
This joint resolution seeks to overturn a Department of Justice rule issued in April 2023 that governed home confinement for federal prisoners under the CARES Act. The rule, which dealt with how the Attorney General could manage prisoners' home confinement during the COVID-19 pandemic, would be eliminated if both chambers of Congress approve this disapproval measure. The resolution was introduced by Representative Paul Gosar in November 2023 and referred to the House Judiciary Committee.
