The Loved Ones Interment Act amends Veterans Affairs law to allow the VA Secretary to provide headstones and markers for cremated veterans who previously received urns or plaques, but are now being buried together with other eligible individuals at the same burial site. Currently, veterans who are cremated receive urns or commemorative plaques instead of traditional headstones, but this bill allows those veterans to also receive a headstone or marker if they are interred alongside another eligible person and the headstone includes information about both individuals. The headstone or marker can only be furnished if including information about both individuals does not increase costs beyond the legally permitted maximum amount. This change primarily affects cremated veterans and their families who wish to have a shared burial site with proper headstone memorialization. The bill was introduced in September 2024 and referred to the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs.
