This bill authorizes the Secretary of the Interior to conduct a feasibility study for a water supply project that would deliver water from the Missouri River to western South Dakota's communities and industries through the Western Dakota Regional Water System. The study must follow federal standards used for water reclamation projects and will be conducted in cooperation with the West Dakota Water Development District and the Western Dakota Regional Water System, a nonprofit organization. The federal government would cover up to 50 percent of the study's costs, with up to $10 million authorized for the project. The bill affects municipalities, rural areas, and industrial users in western South Dakota who need additional water supplies. The study authorization expires 10 years after the law is enacted.
