Within one year of the bill's enactment, the study must examine coverage under Medicare, Medicaid, other federal health programs, employer health plans, and private insurance to determine what treatments and services are covered, any age limits on coverage, and gaps in access to care. The report will also investigate whether insurance companies comply with existing mental health parity requirements and whether patients lose coverage when transitioning from childhood to adulthood diagnoses. The study concludes with recommendations to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and to insurers on how to improve coverage and access to treatment for people with this disorder. The bill does not authorize any specific funding, though conducting the study will require resources from the Government Accountability Office.
