This bill establishes a commission to study whether the United States should create a National Museum of Italian American History and Culture in Washington, DC. The commission will consist of eight members appointed equally by Senate and House leadership from both parties, with members selected based on their expertise in museum administration, Italian American history, fundraising, or public service. Within 18 months of its first meeting, the commission must submit reports to Congress analyzing the feasibility of establishing the museum, including evaluations of collection costs, potential locations, governance structures, construction and operating costs, and the impact on existing Italian American museums. The commission must also develop a fundraising plan demonstrating how the museum could be funded and operated permanently without federal appropriations, and submit recommendations for legislative action. Notably, the bill contains no federal funding for the commission's operations, requiring it to raise all necessary funds independently through private contributions.
