The Ending Scam Credit Repair Act amends federal law to strengthen protections against fraudulent credit repair organizations that prey on consumers seeking to improve their credit. The bill prohibits credit repair companies from charging upfront fees before actually delivering results verified by a consumer credit report issued at least six months after services are provided. The legislation also bans "jamming," the practice of repeatedly filing the same disputes with credit agencies without proper investigation or new information, and requires credit repair organizations to clearly disclose their identity when submitting disputes on behalf of consumers. Additional provisions require credit repair firms to provide consumers copies of all communications sent on their behalf, maintain state licensing beginning January 1, 2026, and respond within 15 business days to information requests from creditors or credit agencies. The bill enhances consumer remedies by allowing individuals to seek statutory damages of up to $500 per violation through lawsuits against noncompliant credit repair organizations.
