This bill establishes a bipartisan task force to study how the lack of affordable housing affects other areas of American life and costs to government programs. The task force will be made up of 18 members, including academics and policy experts appointed equally by Democratic and Republican leadership in Congress, and will have two years to complete its work after all members are appointed. The task force will evaluate how affordable housing shortages impact education, employment, health, neighborhood stability, and other life outcomes, and will calculate the financial burden that lack of affordable housing places on other federal, state, and local programs. The task force will then make recommendations to Congress on how investment in affordable housing could improve the effectiveness of other government programs and people's lives overall. Congress has authorized funding for the task force through fiscal year 2030, with the specific dollar amount to be determined during the appropriations process.
