Summary

Highlight any text to annotate
This bill directs the Secretary of the Interior, through the U.S. Geological Survey, to conduct comprehensive geothermal assessments for Puerto Rico to evaluate its potential for geothermal energy development, including advanced enhanced geothermal systems. The assessments must produce high-resolution maps and geospatial data, evaluate risks to groundwater and drinking water supplies particularly in Puerto Rico's karst terrain, and analyze seismic hazards and earthquake risks associated with geothermal exploration and development. The Secretary of the Interior must coordinate this work with the Secretary of Energy, Puerto Rico officials, and local universities. Beginning one year after the bill's enactment and continuing every two years until the assessments are complete, the agency must report to Congress on the status of the work, progress made, coordination efforts, preliminary findings, challenges encountered, and next steps.
