This bill increases federal funding and oversight for the Health Care Fraud and Abuse Control Program, which works to detect and prosecute fraud in Medicare, Medicaid, and related health programs. The legislation allocates significantly higher budgets across multiple agencies through 2029, including $490 million for the Department of Health and Human Services and Department of Justice in fiscal year 2027, $320 million for the HHS Office of Inspector General, $230 million for the FBI, and substantial increases for Medicare integrity activities. Beginning in 2027, the bill expands oversight to include the Children's Health Insurance Program alongside existing programs. The bill also requires that annual reports on fraud control efforts be submitted to Congress by April 1 each year instead of January 1, with notification required if deadlines are missed. Additionally, the Government Accountability Office is directed to study and report within 16 months on how effectively these fraud prevention programs are using their funding and reducing health care fraud and abuse.
