The VA AI Transparency Act of 2026 requires the Department of Veterans Affairs to inform people whenever artificial intelligence is used to interact with them directly. The disclosure must clearly state that they are communicating with an AI system rather than a human employee and explain the general purpose of the AI use. The rule applies to veterans, their families, caregivers, benefit applicants, and anyone else seeking services from the VA, but does not apply when the VA uses AI internally to help its own employees with administrative or analytical tasks. The VA must implement these disclosure requirements within 180 days of the law's enactment. The bill does not specify any new funding or create new spending programs.
