This bill extends the deadline for completing federal disaster recovery projects in Puerto Rico from their current deadlines to December 31, 2035. The legislation applies to reconstruction and recovery work funded under federal disaster declarations for Hurricane Irma (2017), Hurricane Maria (2017), the 2019 earthquakes, and Hurricane Fiona (2022). State and local governments, tribal governments, and private nonprofit organizations carrying out these projects will have until the end of 2035 to finish their work, with the option to request additional extensions beyond that date through the standard federal process. The Federal Emergency Management Agency must submit annual reports to Congress detailing how many projects have been completed, which ones remain unfinished with projected completion dates, and any obstacles slowing progress. This extension gives Puerto Rico additional time to complete long-delayed infrastructure repairs and recovery work related to multiple major disasters.
