The REVEAL Act would prohibit certain federal officials and their family members from owning or trading stocks and other investments, and from trading on prediction markets. The ban applies to Members of Congress, the President, Vice President, federal judges, senior political appointees, and their spouses and dependent children. The law includes some exceptions, such as diversified investment funds, government bonds, and certain family trusts, but generally requires covered individuals to divest prohibited investments within 90 to 180 days. Officials who violate the restrictions would face penalties including a 10 percent fee on the transaction value and must repay any profits to the U.S. Treasury. The legislation does not authorize new funding and directs federal ethics offices to issue guidance and publicly report all penalties assessed.
