This bill modernizes federal paperwork requirements by requiring government agencies to reduce the burden of information collection on the public. It amends the Paperwork Reduction Act to require agencies to evaluate alternatives like using existing data, electronic collection methods, and statistical sampling before creating new information requests. Additionally, the bill mandates that the Office of Management and Budget require each federal agency to conduct comprehensive reviews of its information collections within 18 months of the law's enactment and every three years thereafter to identify unnecessary collections, opportunities to reduce burden, and duplicative requests across agencies. The reviews will help eliminate redundant paperwork while ensuring agencies still obtain the information needed for their operations.
