This bill amends a 2020 law that transferred federal land to the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe by expanding the amount and types of federal land eligible for transfer to the tribe. Specifically, it allows the Secretary of Agriculture to transfer additional land from the Chippewa National Forest in Cass County, Minnesota, including parcels that were historically sold without the tribe's consent, with priority given to land adjacent to existing tribal lands or of cultural importance to the tribe. The bill permits these transfers to occur on a rolling basis as land is identified and surveyed, with the Secretary and the tribe able to substitute alternative forest land acre-for-acre to avoid scattered land ownership patterns. The legislation also reaffirms that non-tribal members' hunting, fishing, and recreation rights remain unchanged under the existing settlement agreement. The bill requires the Forest Service to conduct public engagement and comment periods as required by law during implementation.
