The Campus Accountability and Safety Act of 2026 establishes new requirements for colleges and universities to improve safety and support for students experiencing sexual violence and harassment. The bill requires the Department of Education to create a public website with campus crime data, information about Title IX coordinators, and details on how to file complaints, while colleges must hire trained sexual violence specialists as confidential resources, publish comprehensive reporting information, and implement amnesty policies protecting students who report incidents from discipline for related conduct violations. Institutions must also adopt trauma-informed practices when handling cases, notify both parties of disciplinary proceedings within 24 hours, and face civil penalties up to one percent of their operating budget for noncompliance. Additionally, the Government Accountability Office must study the effectiveness of federal grant programs addressing campus violence and submit findings to Congress within two years of the bill's enactment.
