This joint resolution would overturn a recent Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection decision to withdraw protections for military servicemembers and their families. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau had originally created a rule in 2021 requiring financial institutions to undergo special examinations to identify risks that could harm active-duty military personnel and their covered dependents, but the agency withdrew this protective rule in May 2025. Congress is using the Congressional Review Act to disapprove of the Bureau's withdrawal, which would restore the original 2021 rule requiring these military-focused financial examinations. The resolution affects all active-duty servicemembers and their qualifying family members who could face predatory lending or other financial abuse. If passed by both chambers of Congress, the resolution would immediately nullify the Bureau's withdrawal and reinstate the consumer protections for military families.
