The Bring the Space Shuttle Home Act directs NASA to move the Space Shuttle Discovery from the Smithsonian Institution's museum near Washington, D.C., to NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, within 18 months of the bill's enactment. NASA and the Smithsonian must jointly develop and submit a transfer plan to Congress within 90 days, including a timeline and cost estimate. Once transferred, the shuttle will be placed on public display within five miles of the Johnson Space Center to support science and technology education, initially under NASA's oversight before potentially being transferred to a designated nonprofit organization. The bill authorizes whatever funding is necessary to complete the transfer, which can be requested as supplemental budget appropriations if needed. The legislation was introduced in April 2025 by Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz of Texas.
