The Auto Reenroll Act of 2025 modifies federal retirement plan rules to allow employers to automatically re-enroll employees in 401(k) and similar retirement savings plans on a periodic basis. Under current law, once an employee opts out of automatic contributions, they remain opted out indefinitely. This bill permits employers to automatically re-enroll employees every one to three years unless the employee makes an affirmative choice to stay opted out. The legislation applies to qualified automatic contribution arrangements and eligible automatic contribution arrangements offered through workplace retirement plans. The changes take effect for plan years beginning after the bill's enactment and are designed to increase retirement savings participation by making automatic re-enrollment periodic rather than permanent, while still respecting employee choice through the ability to opt out again.
