119th (2025–2027)
H.R. 1861
The Checkpoint Modernization Act directs U.S. Customs and Border Protection to renovate Border Patrol checkpoints along the southern border, with a focus on improving officer safety, enhancing detection of human smuggling and contraband, and reducing traffic congestion. The bill authorizes at least $150 million per year for fiscal years 2025 through 2028 to fund these improvements, and requires the agency to report to Congress every 180 days on project costs, status, and justifications. The legislation also rescinds unobligated funding previously allocated to the Environmental Protection Agency for environmental and climate justice programs under the Inflation Reduction Act.
