The bill also authorizes CBP to maintain innovation teams that can rapidly test and transition commercial technologies into active programs while ensuring compliance with privacy protections and responsible artificial intelligence policies. Additionally, the Secretary must conduct cost-benefit analyses before deploying any large-scale new technology to ensure it provides measurable improvements to border security. Congress will receive annual reports on the innovation teams' activities and progress transitioning successful technologies into permanent programs.
