H.R. 1909
H.R. 1909, the Preventing Maternal Deaths Reauthorization Act of 2025, extends and strengthens federal programs aimed at reducing maternal mortality across the United States. The bill reauthorizes funding for state-based maternal mortality review committees—groups that investigate pregnancy-related deaths to identify prevention opportunities—and requires these committees to include obstetricians and gynecologists. It also directs the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to share evidence-based best practices on preventing maternal deaths with hospitals, medical professional societies, and regional quality improvement groups at least once per year. The legislation increases federal funding from $58 million annually to $100 million per year for fiscal years 2025 through 2029, supporting these maternal health initiatives nationwide.
