The Kangaroo Protection Act of 2025 would ban the importation, sale, and distribution of kangaroos and kangaroo products in the United States for commercial purposes. The law applies to four kangaroo species—western grey, eastern grey, common wallaroo, and red kangaroo—and covers any items made wholly or partly from these animals. Anyone who knowingly violates the ban could face criminal penalties of up to $10,000 in fines and up to one year in prison, with each violation counted separately. The Secretary of Commerce would develop regulations to enforce the law, working with the Departments of Agriculture and Justice. The prohibition would take effect 180 days after the bill becomes law, giving businesses and importers time to adjust their operations.
