This bill increases financial support for federal employees who are killed in the line of duty and their families. It establishes a new $100,000 death gratuity (adjusted annually for inflation) for federal employees whose deaths result from work-related injuries, while also raising funeral expense allowances from $800 to $8,800. The bill applies to civilian federal workers across all agencies, as well as federal employees serving abroad in diplomatic roles, and clarifies that these gratuities can be received in addition to other death benefits rather than replacing them. Agencies must report all gratuity payments to the Government Accountability Office within 15 business days, with annual reporting to Congress beginning one year after enactment. The bill authorizes emergency supplemental funding if a natural disaster, act of terrorism, or similar incident creates a surge in death gratuity claims beyond what agencies can cover with existing budgets.
