This concurrent resolution establishes the Congressional Fitness Challenge, a voluntary national program that encourages physical fitness among students ages 6 through 17 by having them complete standardized fitness tests including a one-mile run or walk, pull-ups or flexed arm hangs, curl-ups or sit-ups, a shuttle run, and a sit-and-reach flexibility test. Schools, Members of Congress, and independent entities can sponsor the challenge, with certified fitness professionals administering the tests and comparing results against benchmarks developed in consultation with fitness organizations and based on age and gender. Eligible participants who meet or exceed the established performance benchmarks in all five tests can receive certificates signed by congressional leaders (the House Speaker, Senate President Pro Tempore, their House representative, and their state Senators), with recognition levels designated as gold, silver, or bronze based on national percentile rankings. The sponsoring committees will collect and aggregate participant data by age and gender across the country, and Members of Congress may use their existing office allowances to support challenge activities, with a feasibility report on alternative funding due within one year.
