S. 2152
The Allied Burden Sharing Report Act requires the Secretary of Defense to submit annual reports to Congress by March 1 each year detailing how U.S. allies contribute to shared defense efforts. The reports must cover defense spending by NATO members, Gulf Cooperation Council countries, signatories to the Inter-American Treaty, and key Asia-Pacific allies including Japan, South Korea, Australia, the Philippines, Thailand, and New Zealand. Each report should include each country's defense budget figures, percentage of spending relative to their economy, military contributions to joint operations, and any restrictions they place on their involvement. The reports will be public in unclassified form (though may include classified sections) and available to all members of Congress, ensuring lawmakers can assess whether allies are meeting their commitments to collective defense agreements and address current security threats including near-peer competitors. No specific funding is allocated in the bill, as it simply directs the Defense Department to compile and report data already being collected.
