The VSAFE Act creates a new Veterans Scam and Fraud Evasion Officer position within the Department of Veterans Affairs to serve as the lead coordinator for protecting veterans from fraud and scams. This officer will be responsible for developing fraud prevention strategies, establishing guidelines for identifying and reporting scams, promoting the VA's fraud hotline and website, tracking fraud trends through data analytics, and training VA staff who handle fraud complaints. The officer will also coordinate with other federal agencies—including the IRS, FBI, Social Security Administration, and others—to create a coordinated government-wide approach to protecting veterans and their families. The bill requires no additional full-time employees beyond those already authorized for the VA, and it includes a technical amendment extending a pension payment deadline from November 30, 2031 to January 30, 2032. The measure was introduced in July 2025 with bipartisan support.
