The allowance amounts would match the standard government rates set by the General Services Administration, similar to what federal employees receive. Members who live in the Washington Metropolitan Area (Washington D.C., Northern Virginia, and parts of Maryland) would be excluded from the allowance, as would any expenses already covered under existing House and Senate allowance accounts. The House and Senate administration committees would establish the specific rules, with the effective date beginning in the 119th Congress and applying to all future Congresses.
