The Healthcare for Our Troops Act eliminates health care premiums and most cost-sharing charges for members of the Selected Reserve who are eligible for TRICARE Reserve Select coverage. Under this bill, reserve members would pay nothing for their individual health care coverage at in-network providers, while their family members would continue to pay premiums set at 28 percent of the actuarial cost of family coverage. The legislation also requires the Department of Defense to develop standardized forms within 180 days for civilian health care providers treating reserve members, including information about medical readiness and deployment fitness. These changes would take effect one year after the law is enacted, making health care more affordable for the approximately 800,000 members of the Selected Reserve and their dependents who rely on TRICARE coverage.
