The MARALAGO Act prohibits the federal government from spending taxpayer money to pay the President or any of the President's businesses for lodging, meals, office space, or other expenses related to Secret Service protection at the President's residence. The bill applies to both sitting and former presidents. However, the legislation does allow presidents to voluntarily donate these services to the Secret Service if they choose. In essence, this bill prevents presidents from profiting off federal security expenses at their homes, though it preserves their option to provide accommodations free of charge.
