This bill establishes a Federal Advisory Council to Support Victims of Gun Violence within the Department of Health and Human Services to help coordinate resources and information for people affected by gun violence. The council will include representatives from major federal agencies (such as HHS, the Department of Justice, and the CDC) along with gun violence victims and victim assistance professionals, and will assess existing support programs, identify gaps in services, and compile information about medical, financial, mental health, legal, and housing resources available to victims. Within 180 days of enactment, the council must publish a comprehensive report detailing best practices and available resources for dissemination through websites, federal agencies, schools, and local prosecutor offices, with a follow-up report due two years later. The bill does not authorize any new federal funding, instead directing the council to use existing agency resources, and the council is set to automatically dissolve five years after the law takes effect.
