The Work Zone Weather Integration Act of 2025 directs the Secretary of Transportation, working with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, to establish a pilot program that combines real-time weather alerts with active construction work zone information to improve highway safety. The pilot program will involve at least five states (including at least one rural state) that voluntarily participate in developing and testing integrated alert systems, with participating states able to use existing federal highway safety funds for eligible activities. The program will coordinate among federal agencies including the Federal Highway Administration, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and National Weather Service, as well as private navigation and traveler information companies. Within three years of enactment, the Secretary must submit a report to Congress evaluating the pilot's effectiveness, lessons learned, and recommendations for whether to expand the system nationwide.
