The Safer Emergency and Evacuation Routes Response Act of 2025 directs the Secretary of Transportation to create a voluntary pilot program that integrates real-time wildfire alerts from the National Weather Service with state and local traffic management systems. This integration would automatically provide drivers with information about road closures, detours, and evacuation routes during wildfire events, helping people evacuate more safely and efficiently. The program is voluntary for participating states and does not require them to adopt uniform systems or give the federal government authority over roadway closure decisions. The Secretary will fund the program using existing surface transportation research and development funds, and must report to Congress within two years on the program's effectiveness in improving how quickly and accurately drivers receive wildfire-related information.
